Answers to Common Questions
IS IT TRUE THAT YOU CHARGE ABOUT HALF OF WHAT THEY CHARGE AT WALMART FOR VIDEO TRANSFER?!
Yes, and no... Walmart charges about $13 to convert 30 minutes of video and around $6 for each additional 30 minutes. We charge just $15 for up to 120 minutes of video conversion AND we edit and enhance the video before the DVD or .mp4 files are created. Walmart doesn't do that. Also, we offer a "direct copy" of most tape formats to DVD with no editing or enhancement for just $9.00...! Checkout our products page to see all the tape formats we convert.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO CONVERT MY VIDEO TAPES TO .MP4 FILES?
Unlike the "big box" conversion houses that often take many weeks to get your memories back to you, we are a boutique solution that can often get projects completed in 1-2 weeks.
"WHEN YOU CONVERT MY VHS TAPES, CAN YOU CUT OUT THE UN-RECORDED PARTS AT THE END?"
Yes. We can edit out the unrecorded portions at the start and end of your tapes and just give you back the good parts.
"MY TAPES ARE NOT LABELLED AND I DON'T HAVE ANY WAY TO SEE WHAT'S ON THEM. I KNOW SOME HAVE STUFF ON THEM THAT I DON'T WANT. DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE TAPES THAT HAVE STUFF I DON'T WANT?"
No. If we find that one of your tapes has old episodes of Matlock and you're only looking to preserve your family videos, we will scan the tape and only convert the stuff you want.
"DO YOU CONVERT HOME MOVIE FILM?"
Yes we do! We can convert 8mm and Super 8 movie film to DVD or MP4 digital video files...or both!
"CAN YOU IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THE VIDEO WHEN THEY ARE CONVERTED?"
Yes. During our conversion process we do basic tonal adjustment (brightening/contrast) and color saturation enhancement when it's needed. Please bare in mind, however, that the quality of the conversion is largely dependent on the quality of the original recording on the media provided to Affordable Archives.
"I REMEMBER THAT SOME OF MY 8MM TAPES ARE DISTORTED AND THE AUDIO IS "SCRATCHY". IS THIS GOING TO CARRY OVER TO THE CONVERSION TO FILES?"
It depends. If the distortion you describe is caused by the head being mis-aligned during recording, some or all of that distortion can be eliminated by adjusting the machine while the tape is being digitized. This is a standard part of our process.
