I get asked this question from time to time, usually after explaining that a transfer to DVD costs more than a transfer to USB flash drive due to the increased time and material costs involved in creating the physical DVD disc.
Often, the people who come to me for preservation of their memories are wanting their memories to be transferred to DVD (digital versatile disc) so that they can play them in their set-top DVD players or on their older computers that still have working optical drives in them. The same goes for audio; a significant number of people ask for CDs to be made from their tapes or vinyl records.
One important thing that a lot of people aren't aware of is that most newer flat-screen monitors (TVs) have a USB port and can play the .mp4 video files and .mp3 audio files that are transferred to the USB flash drives that we create here at Affordable Archives.
USB Ports are often found on the back panel of the flat-screen monitor.
Insert the USB flash drive gently. Don't force it! It only goes in one way.
Then, from your flat-screen monitor's INPUT menu, select the USB port and follow the prompts. Different manufacturers may require you to launch a 'media player' app from the monitor's OPTIONS or APPLICATIONS menu in order to play the files on the USB flash drive.
ALTERNATELY, a USB flash drive, or more accurately the files contained on the flash drive, can also be played on your Mac or P.C. For .mp3 audio files on Macintosh computers, use the Apple Music app or another .mp3 music player. For .mp4 video files on a Mac, use the QuickTime Player app that is part of the Mac operating system (OS). On a P.C. use Windows Media Player to playback BOTH .mp3 and .mp4 files from your flash drive.
